Obsidian Brewery
Our Story
Obsidian Brewery began with a shared dream, a lot of heart, and the belief that good beer can bring people together in powerful ways. The idea started brewing back in 2017 when Michael Kenneth Doggett—known to most as Doggett—fell in love with the craft beer world. Alongside his friend and future business partner Safir, the two spent years working, learning, and quietly dreaming of building a place of their own. A place where flavor, fun, and community could thrive.
That dream came to life in the fall of 2023. After six weeks of paint-splattered days, misplaced tape measures, ceiling debates, plenty of sweat, a little blood, and a whole lot of grit—Obsidian Brewery opened its doors in Leander, Texas. Pouring house-brewed beer, wood-fired pizza, and shaking cocktails with just the right amount of weird, we were finally home.
Then, just five months later, everything changed. Doggett passed away suddenly in a car accident—only three months before the birth of his first child. It was a devastating blow and left a massive hole—not only in our business, but in the hearts of everyone who knew him. But the spirit of what he built—the joy, the connection, the way he made people feel seen and welcome—remained. Doggett’s spirit is in every corner of this place.
Today, Obsidian is run by his wife, Brandi, and his partner Safir. Together, they carry on his vision with the same love and wild-hearted energy he poured into it from the beginning. Every beer we serve, every pizza we make, every laugh that echoes across the patio—it’s all for Doggett, and for the community he helped create.
Obsidian isn’t just about good beer (though we’ve got plenty of that). It’s a living tribute to someone who believed deeply in good people, good times, and chasing big dreams. And we’re honored to keep it going.
We laugh a lot. We miss Doggett even more. And every pint we pour is part of the story. Here’s to wild dreams, the best damn pizza in town, and the people who make it all worth it.
